The Best Two Sentences I Read Today

From Tyler Cowen:

"In other words, both voting and not voting are motivated by the thought that you are better than other people. I am glad that we have an entire day devoted to this very important concept."

Happy "I'm better than you" day!

I don't get a vote. Do I still get to feel better than you?

(actually, I'm feeling pretty disenfranchised this year...there was a Canadian election, but I couldn't register to vote absentee because I no longer have a legal residence there. And, of course, I am not a citizen here, so cannot vote in the US election. Nobody loves me!)

Yes, Kate. Feel free to feel superior to me anytime you wish.

How long does it take to become a citizen here? I understand Canada not wanting you to vote there, since you don't have a vested interest in the results of the election, but I should think you'd be well on your way to being legit over here.

I don't get to start the process until I've had my green card 5 years (so, year after next). Then I've been told I can expect the process to drag on for several months or years after that. 7 years is the average time from start to finish, and the citizenship test costs around $800/sitting.
